Hello dear one,

 

My name is Brooke, thank-you for being here.

 

Here's a little piece of my heart...

 

I am an emerging artist, deeply inspired by the roots of r&b, neo-soul, jazz, reggae, hip-hop, world, devotional, and medicine music.

I grew up listening to a wide range of music. I grew up playing piano, cello, steel pan, and guitar.

I love Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, India Arie, Billie Holiday, Erykah Badu, Fatoumata Diawara...these artists move me.

I love Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Leon Bridges, John Coltrane, FKJ, Trevor Hall...these artists move me, too.

Music is at the heart of life for me. It is one of the deepest anchors to truth that I know.

I feel most alive when I'm singing, and dancing, and creating with others.

And that is why I'm here, sharing this message with you now.

 

What is this?

~ A fundraising page to ask for your support with the completion of my first EP release.

 

Who is this speaking to?

~You. Maybe we went to high-school together, or met in a training, or through travels. Maybe its been years since we spoke, or just a few hours. I'm reaching out as widely and openly as possible, in the spirit and belief that this project can be supported by the wings of the global community. In some way shape or form, your magic and presence in my life has been a part of this dream, now coming to be.

 

What is the goal?

~ To raise $2,500 to go towards rental equipment, studio/production time & the producer. Any leftover or bonus funds will be streamed into the organization of a community centered EP release!

 

Where are we at in the project?

~ 3 songs have been recorded (woo-hoo!) with 2 more to be recorded. 1 song is almost completely mastered. We anticipate this being roughly one more month of creation, until the EP is ready for release! All being well!

The Story...

A few months ago, I celebrated my 28th birthday. In the company of a few close soul sisters, I welcomed this in by the ocean, in candlelight, with hot chocolate and laughter. To my surprise, I was given a most incredible gift...

 

My dear friend Maia (who has one of the biggest hearts I have been lucky enough to meet in my life so far) organized a group of 15 of my closest friends and family members into a message thread. She invited these people in to donate any amount they felt inspired to, which would go towards a recording fund. Because of that spark, I have been able to begin recording my first short album (also known as an EP). A dream coming true. That night, they presented this gift to me in a beautifully type-written card. They were able to raise $2, 334. Incredible.

 

Since then, I have been leaning into old journals tracing the lines of songs I've written in the past. I've been carving out dedicated time for new creations to emerge. I've been re-discovering how nourishing and enlivening creating music is...and for this opportunity I am forever grateful.

Thanks to this expression of love and support, I've been in collaboration with my dear friend, Prem, who is the magic behind the production, instrumentation, and vision of what this EP is becoming. I feel truly blessed to be co-creating this first work of art alongside him.

 

Now that we are 2 months into the project, we have managed to find pathways for the $2,334 to land.

Equipment and instrument rentals (thanks Long & McQuade!), studio time, and production time have all been considered, and compensated.

 

We both believe this goal is totally possible to be reached. That this project can flow with harmony and ease into its completion. I am completely inspired by what can happen when a small group of people come together with a shared vision. Now, we welcome you to be a part of that vision!
