Dignity for Girls in South Africa

The objective of the Dignity for Girls project is to empower young girls to live a healthy and productive life by providing them with sanitary items.

It is a widespread but under-acknowledged problem that many girls in Africa miss school and stay at home each month during their menstruation period because they don’t have access to sanitary items. According to UNICEF, one in ten schoolgirls in Africa miss class or drop out due to their period, and substitute regular pads for less safe materials such as rags, newspaper or bark. This living condition affects girls’ self-esteem, academic achievement, health, and even can lead to teenage pregnancy.  It is reported that some young girls make the decision to get pregnant to avoid issues attached to having their menstruation period.

The entire amount of funds raised through this project will be used to purchase sanitary items for girls in public schools and schools for refugees in and around Johannesburg, South Africa. Your contribution will provide girls in Africa to live with dignity. With your support, girls in South Africa can learn and grow in a healthy environment to reach their full potential and be a contributing member of society. Thank you!
