Romania Project

We have a very special two-part project that we invite you to join us on.

Back in 2016 we volunteered to do music and dance programs for two different marginalized groups in Romania: the Special Needs community at the Centrul de Sociotherapie Pantelimon in Bucharest and the Scola Hans Spalinger Waldorf School for Roma (gypsy) students in a small Transylvanian town called Roşia.

Both groups have requested that we come back this May to do more music and dance programs for them. They both depend upon outside economic support, so we ask for your help to get us there.

Why should you support these projects?

Roma (also known as Rroma) kids of Roşia are unwelcome in the public schools which is why some Germans created this Waldorf school for them. Learning about the wider world through our multi-ethnic programs of music and dance is potentially life-changing for these kids.

As for Romanians with Special Needs, they also often lack educational opportunities and therapeutic assistance. To combat this, Pantelimon has created an annual Conference for Professional Development where attendees (both professionals and beneficiaries) together explore ways to improve the conditions and lives of folks with Special Needs.

We are invited to the conference because Pantelimon knows, from experience, that our dance programs have a very positive impact on the emotional, intellectual, and physical well being of folks with Special Needs.

Since this is strictly a volunteer project, our goal is to raise money for our travel costs. Anything above that would provide us a per diem allowance.
