Prison Yoga and Meditation
Donation protected
PRISON YOGA & MEDITATION is a non-profit dedicated to sharing yoga and meditation with prisoners to give them the tools to avoid reoffending.
You may never enter a prison or jail, but your generous tax deductable donation can help alleviate suffering, lower crime rates and improve the overall conditions of the society you live in.
OUR IMMEDIATE GOALS
Prison Yoga & Meditation is not exclusive to Los Angeles. We are ready and able to open branches in other communities!
Our immediate goal is to teach 16 yoga/meditation classes per week in 6 facilities or 96 classes per week in the greater Los Angeles area in county and federal facilities.
The Facilities
Current: Twin Towers Correctional Facility downtown LA, where we teach women and gay and transgender people. We have repeated requests for more classes!
In Progress: Programs to teach high security males at Twin Towers, to help "socialize" them for release.
In Progress: Set up programs at Metropolitan Detention Facility LA and create programs for corrections officers and staff.
Current: Offer financial support to the yogis who have been teaching at the California Institute for Women in Chino for ten years with no financial aid.
Pending: Set up programs at Terminal Island in San Pedro that houses special needs prisoners.
Pending: Set up programs to Century Regional Detention Facility in Compton that houses 2,000 women including a pregnant population.
Future: Set up programs at Men's Central Jail.
WHERE YOUR MONEY WILL BE SPENT
PYM is dedicated to keeping our organization lean. We will never have an office.
We are currently a volunteer organization. But we need a roster of about 300 yoga/meditation teachers to reach the most prisoners possible. To do this, because Los Angeles is an expensive city to live in, and because teaching inside requires 4 hours out of an instructor's day, our goal is to pay our instructors.
We also need mats and blocks to set up programs.
Thank you for changing lives through yoga and meditation!
