Prison University Education request: I am looking for donors to help cover costs of funding 8 prisoners from the Fraser Valley Institution for federally sentenced Women to take a university course through Capilano University in Sept 2019. If you have any suggestions for local philanthropists who have an interest in increasing access to education for marginalized groups, such as those who are incarcerated.
We are in the process of implementing the Walls to Bridges program (http://wallstobridges.ca/) and overcoming hurdle after hurdle (prison clearance for outside students, textbook donations, signed MOU between FVI and CapU, registration of prisoner-students), and now we are needing to raise about $5000.00 to launch the pilot course this Fall. If successful, there is a chance the University will provide on going funding - the University supports this initiative in theory but has no capacity to fund-raise or identify donors at this point....very
