Priscilla Jimenez’ Story

Donation protected
Almost a year ago, at the very begging of lockdown 0.1, I began this project of exploration into the lives of women of colour in prison in America. I began sending letters to woc across the United States asking of their experiences and their stories. An extremely relevant investigation at the time and an ongoing topic of discussion in modern day activism - the misinterpretation of women of colour in the criminal justice system.

Naively when I first started this project I expected to have the first zine done in a month, at this point I had a false idea of the emotional commitment I would have to give. Honestly this project was a lot for me, and probably a lot more for the women involved. For that reason I have really given myself time to get things in a way I feel is right, creating a prolonged series about individual women of colour in the system.

The first women in question is Priscilla Jimenez, a mother of 3, who is incarcerated in Bruceton Mills West Virginia. I won’t say too much on her story because I want people to really read it for what it is, and not from my point of view. Her PO Box and name is on the front cover, and so will be all of the others, as in insensitive to reach out to these women and to create a community within this idea.

All zines can be purchased with a donation made on the go fund me I’ve set up and linked in my bio. All the donations will go straight to Priscilla and her children rather than a charity, to cut out the middle man. All you have to do is make a donation of your choice and screenshot proof to me and send me your address (@gemsk.i). This is a non profit project, really made with all the love in my heart, that I will be sharing through the year !
