Fundraiser for princess Nalah Gibe.

The Southern African music community will be coming together at Ashkenaz in Berkeley to support the future of the daughter of Moeketsi Gibe and Sarbia Gibe after learning of her diagnosis with Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy.  This night will be presented by Zulu Spear and the Chinyakare Ensemble, and will include community members Kelly Takunda Orphan and more.  Please come together to help us support one of the children of our community.  We have set up this GoFundMe page in case you can't make it to the fundraiser in person, or if you would like to contribute additional funds.

A message from Nalah's parents:

Spastic Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy.

These are the words that shattered our minds, and shook our souls on May 10th, 2017, when the neurologist spoke to us about our precious daughter Nalah’s diagnosis.

How? When? Why? And again, How???

Since May 10th, Nalah has started physical and occupational therapy.

On May 25th, 2017, Nalah had an MRI. Our Pediatric Neurologist confirmed that our daughter suffered a stroke at the time of birth.  This caused a limited amount of oxygen to the brain, which left her with slight paralysis to the right side of her body.

The blessing in all of this is that we caught it early because we were concerned that Nalah was not reaching milestones for example:  rolling over, sitting up without support, or attempting to crawl.  Although there isn’t a cure yet, there is therapy to help strengthen her physically and cognitively develop.

We have more questions than answers, we know very little but are actively networking, and our faith is greater than our fears.

Now that the first shock has subsided, we are sharing our situation in hopes that we can connect with parents who can guide us through this difficult transition.

We thank you in advance for all your love and support. Please keep our precious Nalah in your prayers and thoughts of divine healing and growth.

Nalah is loved and no less of a miracle and blessing to us. We look forward to helping her develop and grow. If you know of this condition or know someone that can be of help or support please feel free to share our story or to connect us.

This has made our family stronger than ever.  We are using the healing power of positive thinking, prayer, laughter, music, dance and tears to remain rooted and calm.
