Princess Zahara

Princess Zahara was born on July 13, 2015 to Devonte and Sharayne. That day changed their lives forever. On a random ultrasound around 25 weeks pregnant Sharayne was informed of an irregularity in her baby’s heart. After many scans and specialist appointments she was informed that her baby had Av Canal Defect (a hole in her heart) that would need repair through open heart surgery and Trisomy 21, where the extra chromosome # 21 is attached to another chromosome which is also known as translocation Down syndrome.

This did not stop these beautiful parents from celebrating their first child and welcoming the challenge because they knew that she was a miracle a wonderful manifestation.

Due to complications with Zahara’s heart, the doctors felt it necessary to deliver her earlier than expected. With prayers and a waiting room full of loving family Zahara was born. Sharayne and Devonte insured to have the best, natural, holistic approach to Zahara’s lifestyle. The two, changed their eating habits, bought probiotics, ensured to breastfeed their baby and reached out to local Doula’s which in turn reassured them with confidence and love every step of the way.

Shortly after Zahara was born, occupational Therapy was set up to ensure Zahara would have the best possible lifestyle and open heart surgery was set to take place.

At 5 months, Zahara went into the operating room and had a successful surgery repairing her Av Canal defect. She came out stronger than ever.

Through consistent Therapy, Zahara is walking, talking, learning new things each and every day and her father Devonte, grandmother Stephanie, and aunt Alexis are all there to watch her and cheer her on. She loves to eat bananas, singing, and our girl here is a dancer especially to afro beats. She enjoys playing with her brother and a social butterfly.

One May 14, 2017 (mother’s day) Zahara and her baby brother Pharaoh lost their mother, Sharayne to a heinous and catastrophic act of violence.

Devonte has been doing everything in his power to keep their home standing as the sole provider and full time student. He has begun to struggle in keeping his head above it all. Not only did he loose his wife, he lost a piece of him. During this heinous act Devonte was subjected to multiple bullet wounds and had to undergo surgery and healing. In an instant he became a single parent of two, a survivor, and now has to heal – physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Devonte is one of the strongest men I know. I am honored to call him my brother. His heart is made of gold and he will do absolutely anything for his children. He strives to become the ideal parent, while continuing his education in information technology.

On February 28, 2018 doctors diagnosed Zahara with Leukemia. One obstacle after another, I see my brother questioning, worrying, and losing pieces of himself. It’s almost like he finally gets to a point where he can smile and something else happens. The last thing I want him to worry about is hospital bills, or nutrition for Zahara, or cleaning maintenance in his home to maintain a sterile free environment.

He has never asked for anything, so I am asking on his behalf.

With each donation and share you are giving breathe to this family, a little ease, a little love. Although we appreciate hospital technology and advancements as they are today. We also understand the importance of allopathic medicine and plant based diets to ensure that Zahara’s body remains alkaline vs. acidic. This is a heavy burden for just one man to carry alone. This little girl has a community, a community that has been through so much heartache the last few years and more so the last several months. It takes a village.

Please open the door of your heart. Let this precious baby girl in. Allow space for just one more into your heart. Love wins. And for you reading this story THANK YOU. Give, share, and pray #PrincessZahara is beating CANCER. She is unstoppable.
