Prince Fluffy Kareem Tough Mudder Fundraiser

Tax deductible
Prince Fluffy Kareem (PFK) is a UK-registered charity based in Cairo, Egypt. Their mission is to help the animals working by the pyramids of Giza.

To raise funds for this utterly deserving cause, a group of us (some under duress) who work for Animal Friends Insurance are taking part in Tough Mudder on the 24th of September 2022 and will endure 15km of mud, hills, and obstacles.

All of us are lifelong animal lovers and me, Adam, Christopher, Emma, Lucy, Mel, Nicole, Peter, Phoebe, and Stephen hope that you can give what you are able to for this amazing cause. It's important to note that on top of the money we raise, Animal Friends Insurance has pledged to match donations themselves.

What does PFK do?

PFK treats mainly horses but also lots of camels and donkeys. Animals there are used to take tourists and Egyptian locals on rides around the pyramids and in the surrounding desert, they are also used as transport and they pull carts selling local produce.

Many of the pyramid horses are in shockingly poor condition, usually caused by a combination of reasons. Many of the owners are on a low income, meaning they generally buy the cheapest horses, who are often already in poor condition, suffering from injuries and illnesses. Living in a desert with hay not available locally, they are often fed inadequate diets, leading to colic, ulcers, and laminitis. As well as illnesses, horses are often injured in their arduous work or simply from their poor, overcrowded living conditions. The owners cannot afford the good, experienced vets and farriers and although medication is sold over the counter, they can’t afford to buy it.

Animals that are too injured to work, but that can live happily as pets are usually bought by PFK and retired - more and more owners surrender horses to PFK without wanting anything in exchange. Those that are too injured to have any quality of life are humanely euthanised.

PFK offers all treatment free of charge, whether that is feeding a horse for two months, x-rays, wound care, farrier work, or surgeries. Most important of all, they educate. No one can change the financial situation in Egypt, but owners can be taught how to better understand their animals' needs.

PFK are always desperately in need of funds to continue the amazing work they do to look after all of their resident animals, as well as the exceptional educational work they do in the community. You can see more of what they do over on their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/princefluffykareem Please be advised that some of the stories they share can be quite distressing.
