Treasuring yesterday, celebrating today, embracing tomorrow. Priest Lake is more than a location. For those who live or vacation there, it is a frame of mind. A place you never want to leave. A home - or home-away-from-home - for generations to gather and create memories that last forever. And when a loved one passes, there can be the desire for a quiet place of reflection to remember that loved one, in the place they loved best. The nearest cemetery is in Priest River, and current zoning regulations will not allow for a cemetery to be established at Priest Lake. The need for a designated memorial space has been felt by our residents and visitors for some time, and we are committed to meeting this need in a way that honors “The Lake”.
The Priest Lake Memory Garden project will create a living space where those memories can be manifested, where generations of families can gather and celebrate the lives of their loved ones in an unspoiled, natural setting. Set on four acres near the Priest Lake Golf Course, the Priest Lake Memory Garden site will include pathways, water features, fire pit, benches and a Memory Wall, all designed to create a peaceful retreat.
The proposed site has been placed under contract for purchase with significant help from the Hill and Urquhart families, the Priest Lake Golf Course, and the Priest Lake Memorial Gardens Board of Directors. Land Expressions, a national award-winning landscape design firm, has been retained to Master Plan the project. Preliminary concept design drafts show a dynamic mix of untouched forest, gently meandering pathways, murmuring water features, landscaped alcoves, decorative benches, and tastefully spaced memory plaques spread throughout the grounds. Work has begun on clearing pathways and clearing brush and debris from the site, and the construction of a bridge over one of the water features.
