NYC Carpenters Pride Parade Float 2014

Greetings,
We are fundraising on behalf of the New York City's District Council of Carpenters Women's Steering Committee, an organization that is working with and for all of the sisters in the carpenters union as well as any sister involved in the construction industry.The NYDCC Women's Committee is New York"˜s chapter of the international "Sisters in the Brotherhood." The Women's Committee meets on a quarterly basis to promote a network of active sisters within the Union. The NYCDCC women's committee is an integral part of the NYCDCC, providing a forum for women in the New York carpenters union to share, support and learn from each other's experiences, and use that knowledge to promote growth on both personal and professional levels and to become more actively involved in their trades.
Our mission is to create a network of active sisters that will provide avenues for women: to address issues, promote strength, unity and retention in order to increase and diversify the number of our female workforce in the NYCDCC-UBC. Our aim is to become involved in activities and leadership within our union, thereby making the union a stronger labor organization for all its members.
Our goal is to strengthen our union and all sisters within it. Toward the realization of that goal, we have developed a mentoring program for female apprentices, informational workshops on our benefit programs and departments within our union, guest speakers on a variety of subjects, and social events to build solidarity and community. We are also involved in a number of parades in NYC throughout the year, the NYC gay pride parade being one of them. We have been part of this parade since 2007, when we proudly marched with less than 20 women behind our banner. We are extremely proud to say that in 2013 we had over 50 women representing the NYCDCC and other construction trades walking behind our banner.
We are excited about this upcoming summer, anticipating a turnout of 70-100 sisters for the gay pride parade and look forward to upgrading to a float. NYCDCC Women's Committee is dedicated to the process of making that happen, however, we need your help. Your donation will bring us closer to our goal of $5,000. Many union locals, community leaders, and small businesses are on board as well as individuals. The NYCDCC Women's Steering Committee is excited and eager to see this project succeed. You can be a part of that excitement by supporting us with your donation. We are happy to acknowledge your donation on our website and at our numerous events (unless you prefer otherwise.)
