Preventing Housing Eviction For 20 Orphans

I have been in regular contact and relationship with Shanitah, who runs Vera Levecchi Orphanage in Uganda. She provides for and takes care of 20 children, some struggling with HIV/AIDS and sickle cell disease. She does not own her own house/building for the kids, but has to rent a space from a landlord.

The landlord has locked her and the kids out of their building multiple times because rent is unpaid and threatens to do it again.

 

It is traumatic for the children lack safe housing after they have already endured the trauma of being abandoned by family. Please donate as you feel led to help provide some security for these kids so they can live a normal life.

This Gofundme has been active since 2022 to raise money for rent. Below is the description of the past amounts of funds that have been raised.

Shanitah had a job, but after an unfortunate accident, she was not able to work and lost her job. Since then, she has been unable to find employment and has accumulated several debts that threaten the physical security of the kids.

 

Debt #1=Past-due Rent. The landlord has locked her and the kids out of their building multiple times because 4 months of rent are unpaid. He threatens to do it again if the debt plus 3 months of pre-payment is not provided immediately/in installments).

 

Debt #2= Hospital Bills. Shanitah and all the children became sick as COVID has swept through Uganda recently. Expensive hospital visits had to be taken to ensure everyone could recover without long-term effects. If the medical bills are left unpaid, they could be denied future medical treatments(a dangerous risk for her children with HIV/AIDS).

 

Additionally, not enough money is being collected from the orphanage's donors to cover the inflated costs of food for the kids. Only 2 meals a day can be eaten, and some kids still have to "fast" when supply is tight.
