The original Pretty Positives Club (PPC) was started by me as a result of wanting to teach my daughter ways to raise her self-esteem and feel good about herself in her own skin, to live a life of thinking positive thoughts, setting and achieving her goals, to dream big and to build confidence in herself. As a result, I wanted to share and motivate other girls her age to develop a positive outlook on life. In 2004 the ideas of PPC was born. I started PPC in my home with my daughter and her friends from school as members then later.

8 years ago, I decided to revamp and commit myself full-time to what is now known as the Pretty Positives Educational Mentoring Activities Program to helping young girls in the Public School system develop a more positive outlook of themselves and their lives through journaling weekly Positive Affirmations in addition to extending their education by incorporating academic subjects such as science, math, reading writing, PE, music and art in most of their weekly activities.

My other reason for starting and expanding the program was to give girls who may not have had a cultural experience,  a chance to experience it. For example in the past 14 years, I've taken members to  see "Purlee" performed by the Mosaic Youth Theater, the " Swan Lake" ballet, " The Young Choirs Orchestra", "BRUNDIBAR " an opera performed entirely by children, "Alvin Ailey Theater of Dance Performance " , "MIKADO Opera" also performed by children," A Cinderella Story Ballet" and the "DSO's Young Choirs Orchestra".

I have operated my program in 13 schools. Member attendance varies between 6-20 girls per school. I would love for more girls to join but, most of the time they can't because their parents can't afford it. I have a few generous sponsors but, not quite enough to sponsor every girl who wants or needs to join the program. Sometimes parents of members who are in the program, have to pull their daughter(s) out  because they've fallen on hard times. I have heard many stories  from parents about how they really don't want to but have to take them out because of an  unforeseen financial circumstance.

Also, Members attendance to the cultural events, depends mostly on their parents transportation to and from the venue. Sometimes, tickets can be expensive even with a group discount so, with that in mind and my goal of wanting them to get the exposure, I pay half the cost  of the ticket for each member who can attend and their parent(s) has to come up with the other half. This does not always help every girl who wants to attend because their parent(s) may not have the transportation to get them to and from the venue or they can't afford to pay the other half for the ticket.

My ultimate goal for Pretty Positives' future has become to offer the program at little to NO COST and to expand it to Middle and High school girls as well.

With your help, I can make this possible!

Please give what you can, not just financially but,  of your time, services and/or references that can help reiterate the Pretty Positives Mission, to teach, support and enrich the lives of ALL girls by providing programming that promotes positive self-esteem, self-love and self-confidence.

Thank you for supporting Pretty Positives!
