Preston Ruppert Needs Our Help

Donation protected
I am putting out a call for help for a 15-year-old boy in dire need of assistance. Preston Ruppert is a friend of our family and was recently diagnosed with cancer. On June 15, 2018, Preston underwent a testing procedure that identified a tumor. It was a mature teratoma with a minor component of embryonal carcinoma and a focal possible seminoma, aka: CANCER.

We had hoped that the cancer was localized to one area. However, after diligently watching his cancer markers, it was determined that the cancer had spread and would now require chemotherapy.

Starting August 27th, Preston begins 9 weeks of BEP Chemo to kill the cancer in his body. While receiving his chemotherapy he will attempt to live a normal life as a 10th grader on the days he is not receiving his treatments at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Once chemo has been completed and his body has had time to recoup, Preston will need to have a major invasive surgery to remove abdominal lymph nodes in hopes that it will prevent the spread of the cancer. Unfortunately, there are only a handful of doctors in the US that perform this delicate procedure. Lucky for us, there are two of them working for Mayo in Rochester.

Preston was born in La Crosse, WI and attended school in La Crescent, MN - being Lancer strong from K-9.  He is now a sophomore Winhawk at Winona Senior High School in Winona, MN.

Preston’s mom, Jennifer “Besek” Ruppert is a graduate of Cotter High School, Class of 1991 in Winona, MN.  She has basically raised her 2 sons on her own and just celebrated 10 years of service with Kaplan-Schweser in La Crosse, WI. They lived in La Crescent for many years (a couple of those years right across the street from us ). Jenny works very hard and was very proud to purchase their first home in Goodview, MN just over a year ago. We were sad to see them move away, but happy they had a house to make their very own home.

Jenny’s oldest son, Carson, is a 2018 graduate from La Crescent High School and was born with hemalytic spherocytosis. This affects red blood cells and presented many challenges right after his birth. His condition eventually required removal of half of his spleen at age 2 and the remaining half at age 5. Next month Carson joins the nursing program at Western Technical College in La Crosse, WI.

As you can see, “Supermom” Jenny is no stranger to child illnesses and hospitals. She is such a strong person, never asks for anything and just wants to provide for her children. She always has a smile on her face and shows concern and compassion for others. Upon meeting Jenny, or even after knowing her, you would never know the hardships she has faced so far in life. Jenny is very proud and does not like to ask for help. Some call it stubborn. Some call it pride. Unfortunately, in this case we all know she needs some help.....and she knows it too.

Since Preston has been diagnosed, his uncle passed away from cancer and his aunt is not far behind. And the mother of Jenny’s co-worker just passed away from cancer as well. Sometimes it can be so hard keeping the good vibes up when family members and loved ones are losing their battles with cancer. Prayers, thoughts of strength and positive vibrations are all appreciated. Thank you

We all hope and pray that Preston has a long, full life ahead of him. He enjoys Star Wars, collecting Pokemon cards, and lots of video games. His current obsession is with Anime Sword Art Online. Preston totally loves anything science related, Geology and Astronomy in particular. He has a great mind, shy smile and awesome head of hair with so much to offer the world. Please continue to keep Preston and his family in your prayers.

If you can spare any contribution to help Preston’s journey, it would be greatly appreciated. Gofundme.com offers a safe & easy way to explain our cause and includes an electronic means for you to contribute.

Local families, friends and Ruppert classmates, I would be happy to meet you if you prefer not to donate electronically. You can give me  any items, cash, Kwik Trip gas cards, restaurant gift cards, meals, care packages and/or enclose a card or note for the Rupperts. Everything will be appreciated.

Also, if you prefer to mail a personal card to Jenny, please message me for her address.

Thank you,
