Preston High Memorial for Sara and Helen High

Donation protected
In lieu of flowers….please consider providing to those left behind who could use the financial support.

Our son, Preston High, died unexpectedly at 12:37 AM on January 4th.  He died from complications of pancreatitis and heart failure.  He was 31 years old and had met his soul mate, Helen Wang High, about 4 years ago and they married a year ago, September.  They were a great match.  She was such a source of strength and comfort for him.  He struggled in life, his entire life, with major physical ailments as a child through adulthood, with addictions, with self-worth doubts that sometimes crippled him in his abilities to be all that he could and wanted to be for those he loved most.  He was a source of strength and comfort for her, too.  She was born without the ability to hear so Preston was an open door to the hearing world of family and friends who embraced her and swept her into his world of activity (hiking, going to the beach, producing music videos, going to movies, attending concerts and more).  I am sure she will be lost for a while without his companionship.  He filled a room with his energy so that room must feel pretty still without him.

Preston had another great love of his life, Sara Bailee High, his biological daughter who lives in California with her grandmother/guardian who she has been raised by and who she knows as her mother.  Preston and Sara’s biological mother had her at a time in their life where they were unable to take on the responsibility of another human being.  They were having trouble taking on the responsibility of their own lives so it was better for Sara to be relinquished into the care of Stacey and Zack who have loved her fiercely and cared for her immensely since she was born.  Sara will be 12 years old this year and she, herself, has struggled to find her footing in this world.  Preston has great regrets of not being able to do more for Sara.  He loved her very much.

In lieu of flowers, if your heart leads you to help either Helen or Sara on Preston’s behalf, we know Preston would have loved to leave them some sort of legacy from him.  If there is a benefit from losing someone, it is they leave behind their lasting memory and “their riches of the world”.  Preston had no riches; all he had was love, compassion and a great desire.  Maybe you can help fill some of that desire to help his 2 great loves left behind by him.

Any funds contributed will go directly to Helen and/or Sara.
Preston’s parents are paying all funeral expenses so no funds will come to us.  Please indicate where you want your contribution to go and we will make sure it gets to them.

Services are scheduled for both Roswell, GA @ 1 PM EST on Jan 19th, and Longview, TX  @2 PM CST on Feb 1st.
We will post more details on FB as arrangements are made as well as here:  https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/roswell-ga/preston-high-8985460 .   (We hope to be able to record and/or FaceBook Live the memorial services for those that would like to attend virtually.)

Preston and Helen's relationship inspired MattyB (Preston's cousin, Matt) to produce and sing this song. It takes on another message now and we dedicate it to Helen:  https://youtu.be/zTVuoJL4i1k
