Preston Collins fight with ALS

Many friends, neighbors, family members and relatives came together over two years ago to support Preston in his fight with ALS by donating to a Go-Fund-Me Account to raise money for a Disability Van. With everyone’s help, they were able to raise enough money for a substantial down payment helping to lower their monthly cost. Preston and family have been very blessed with the love and support they received from everyone and they know that God will and has bless you all for it.
Since that time two years ago, Preston progressed to the point that he needs 24-hour constant care and his wife, Lara, has become his full-time caregiver. Because of this crippling disease, the financial hardship that their family has incurred has impacted their quality of life tremendously. Having to survive on a limited income from Social Security/Disability has left them with needing additional support from their parents as they continue to face other challenges in their everyday life.
As each day goes by, Preston’s situation and medical condition changes. It has become a challenge each day to understand the diverse needs of a person with ALS and how to match and provide the necessary accommodation needed for their care. Preston has lost strength in his arms and hands making it very difficult to bath, groom, and keep up his general hygiene.
The ALS Association highly recommends reaching out to family and friends for help and support. It’s hard, but Preston and Lara are in dire need to have their bathroom shower remodeled for a handicap accessible roll-in shower, as soon as possible, to accommodate a wheelchair to take care of his daily hygiene.
The Collins family has enlisted a certified contractor that has evaluated the bathroom with a written quote for the job. The job is currently on hold and is waiting on funding. The most crucial part is timing, which is not something ALS gives its receivers. They need this remodeling more than ever.
