Preserving Gaudiya Odiya Vaishnava Literature

Funds go to GORA, a branch of BRC, Bhaktivedanta Research Center, dedicated to HDG A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada’s desire to create a library to preserve rare important Gaudiya books.
GORA is Madhavananda Das’ offering to Srila Prabhupada and Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja who was a lover of rare Gaudiya Odiya literature and wanted to begin a Vaishnava university in Odisha. This project is also due to the inspiration and blessings from the learned professor and devotee Sripad Fakir Mohan Das who wanted to open a research center in Odisha to preserve rare Odiya literature and requested Madhavananda to assist him. Fakir Mohan Prabhu dedicated his life to searching out, preserving, and publishing these rare books. It is our hope that this endeavor will please these personalities. We pray for their blessings and the blessings of all the dear devotees of Jagannath, Gopinath, and Gaudiya-Odiyanath Gauranga Mahaprabhu.
This project is intended to be a resource for scholars, devotees, and researchers and our slogan is: Preserve, Publish, Practice.
We have at this time an extensive library consisting of nearly 4,000 books. This includes a number of rare books as well as hundreds of volumes in English, Odiya, Sanskrit, and Bengali on Odisha, Puri, and Jagannath. We are also constantly expanding and adding new titles and look forward to greatly increasing the number of books in our collection.
We have some rare books that are on a short-term loan. We are looking to immediately scan and digitize these books before the loan ends. To this end, we are trying to raise funds to purchase a few much-needed items.
· A professional quality scanner for digitizing and preserving old rare books that we have on loan with us (these scanners typically cost upwards of $5,000)
· Desktop computer and monitor for running the scanner and cataloging books
· AC system for the library to help preserve the books
We know that in these tumultuous and challenging times, there are many pressing causes that need financial support. We humbly ask you to consider supporting the preservation of these rare treasures that will cultivate spiritual education and will yield nurturing fruits for generations.
In addition to the immediate vision of preserving and publishing rare books, we have a long-term vision of creating an ashram in Puri where devotees can come to study a variety of accredited courses e.g., scriptures, Vedic ecology, etc. and be spiritually nourished with the experience of the Holy Dhama while associating with like-minded devotees. About Madhavananda Das:
Madhavananda Das joined the ashram in ISKCON Los Angeles in 1982. He moved to Bhubaneswar, Odisha in 1993 and has been living in Odisha since. He was instructed by his spiritual master, Sri Srimad Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja to edit his lectures into publications. For over twenty years he has been serving as the director of Gopal Jiu Publications , the editor of Sri Krishna Kathamrita Magazine, and the fortnightly digital magazine Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu. He resides in Jagannath Puri Dhama with his wife Krishna Kunda Dasi, and relishes the opportunity to take devotees on parikrama and educate them about the treasures of Odisha and Mahaprabhu’s pastimes there. In non-COVID times, he and his wife travel extensively throughout the world, sharing Krishna katha.
