Protect a local signature landscape !
Thanks to hundreds of volunteers and contributors, we have a one-time chance to preserve an irreplaceable urban oasis! Many thanks to those who already gave! More is needed!
Funds from this campaign will support a strong community-based initiative to protect an exceptional place from irreparable destruction. This property is ecologically and culturally significant, overlooking one of the rarest wetlands on the Rio Grande River. It is the only place in New Mexico that we can experience the unparalleled views of Sandia Mountain range, miles of bosque cottonwoods, iconic wildlife, and critical habitat to species under the Endangered Species Act—all in one place.New Mexicans protect the places they care about
, and we care about this rare, scenic wetland bluff. Without intervention, a destructive high-density conventional housing development will demolish a unique adobe revival homestead that has served as an informal nature preserve and environmental sanctuary since the late 1950s. The development will impact a teeming wildlife corridor, a rare spring fed wetland on the Rio Grande, and migratory Sandhill Crane roosting habitat, perhaps irreparably. If built, we will lose this treasured overlook as a public amenity available to all.WHY FUNDS NEEDEDLegal counsel required.
Funds are used to pay for legal counsel to appeal the site plan (public record PR-2018-001402). A strong and well-organized cooperative effort of 17 neighborhood associations and individuals appealed a site plan that was approved by the City of Albuquerque Environmental Planning Commissioners on March 14, 2019.
