Preserve Election Integrity in Florida

Florida election law requires a candidate who qualifies for office by petition on partisan ballot to have a minimum number of signatures and anyone who submits such a petition who has signatures invalidated after qualifying closes to be below the minimum at that point is disqualified.

I placed second in the general election for Circuit Clerk and Comptroller of Escambia County in the general election of November 3, 2020 to the incumbent Pam Childers who ran on major party ballot but Childers has turned in only 2,200 signatures for an office that requires 2,130 signatures to qualify with the qualifying minimum set by the closing of the books of the most previous general election under Florida law.

I believe that Pam Childers if proper analysis is done on the signatures as many as 100-150 will be struck which would render her ineligible but reading Florida election law it is hard to tell if in this case it would give her nomination back to the party or if it would be the second place finisher that would get the Certificate of Election.

But I have suffered some economic reverses in 2020 and have been subject to mistreatment if traced back to a candidate or campaign would serve as a violation of Florida election code, like being denied a fair chance for a job as a teacher when he had a shortage in Escambia County and I have a bachelor's degree and no felony convictions and am not a sex offender so usually would get hired and I do believe the Escambia County Board of Education stonewalled at the request of now Sheriff-elect Chip Simmons and I also was "banished" from CareerSource Escarosa, our state employment office, without cause and which was clearly politically motivated and if you traced it back to someone at a campaign who encouraged that, understand under Florida law that would cross the line into a felony, these are common tactics in Alabama and are legal there but it is not legal under Florida election code.

I lost a storage unit which I was storing critical stuff at on Friday and have nowhere to store it but if I get the Certificate of Election on account of disqualifying Pam Childers that is a four year term paying $150,061 a year.

This money is raised for my personal expenses, but basically given logistical issues and health problems I need to be downtown in a hotel and to have my stuff in storage and the vote is set to be certified and so I need to review the signatures now and I believe the Escambia County Supervisor of Elections Office may well believe Pam does not have the full amount of signatures but the local establishment is dead set against me having the office never mind I am capable of doing the work as I have a Bachelor's degree from Spring Hill College where I double majored in Political Science and Business Management and served on Student Government Association and have been admitted to law school before so I am clearly capable of doing the work.

But if legally, Pam should be disqualified, and legally if that means I as the second place vote getter should get the office if we have any kind of ELECTION INTEGRITY in Florida then the law should be followed here.

In the event I lose the election contest, given the politically motivated harassment I have suffered in Escambia County it is best for me to relocate to another part of the state, likely south of Gainesville.

But this money is for personal expenses just to be able to be at my best this week as I have to go through the signatures on the Childers petition and remember 71 signatures so struck gives me the election

We should not fail to enforce election integrity in Florida just because a candidate has fallen on hard times.
