For nearly a century, the coal chute stood as a symbol of DeKalb’s hardworking spirit and the family who kept it running. Its presence was woven into the fabric of our town, serving as a reminder of the industry and dedication that shaped our community. Now, after 99 years, the coal chute has been taken down, and we face the risk of losing a vital piece of our local history.

This fundraiser is dedicated to creating and installing a landmark sign in our park, so future generations can learn about the coal chute’s significance and the family who ran it. By sharing this story, we hope to honor their legacy and ensure that the memory of the coal chute remains alive in DeKalb. The funds raised will go directly toward paying for and installing the sign, making this project possible for everyone who cares about our town’s heritage.
