Preserve a Cougar for the Lilwat Cultural Centre
On February 10th a magnificent cougar killed one of our farm animals. He had previously hunted and had been seen throughout our neighbourhood for a month. Unfortunately it was decided that the cougar had to be trapped and destroyed by the conservation office due to safety concerns.
Seeing this incredible apex predator for the first time was awe inspiring. We had heard stories and seen pictures but we weren’t prepared for how impressive they are in person. It was a sad event to witness but it was one we are grateful to have been part of.
Once this healthy and incredibly gifted male hunter was killed we immediately started asking about how we could preserve the hide for educational purposes.
We live on Lilwat Nation territory so it is humbling to be able to have it go on display within the Tszil learning centre adjacent to the LilwatCultural Centre in Mount Currie, BC. The Conservation Office has agreed to release the animals remains to Lilwat. Ordinarily animals in human conflict are not preserved or released to the public.
This go fund me is setup to help raise the $5000 cost of properly preparing the animal for display.
