BEAR - Bringing Educational Access to Rwanda

My serving team and I are preparing for a mission trip to Rwanda, Africa, from May 22nd until June 6th, 2013; and will be working with the local church in Kigali - the capital - to build preschools for orphans and poor kids. 

Our mission is part of the Saddleback Church Global PEACE Plan (more details below), and these preschools will follow the teaching methods provided and successfully implemented worldwide by PEPE - started and based in Brazil.

There are currently 230 PEPE preschools in 20 countries around the globe - including Rwanda - and there are countless stories of this initiative lifting communities out of poverty, positioning families for a better life, and cultivating the world's future leaders (more details below).

Education is something most of us take for granted. Not only that - most of us forget that literacy opens the door for opportunity; and protects kids from drugs, gangs, and human sex/slave trafficking that occur so heavily in disadvantaged countries like Rwanda.

Heading out there will also be a gateway into future initiatives to provide assistance in medical care, sanitation, orphan care, finances, micro business, and the list goes on.

There are 2 ways in which you can make a difference:

1. Donations towards the mission. Our goal is to raise $14,000 - this will take care of preschool classroom/kitchen/playground construction, desks, chairs, books, office supplies, salaries for teachers for 2 years, airfare, lodging, a translator, food, ground transportation, clean water, preventative medical care, training material, and other resources.

I am amazed at how far $14,000 can go towards establishing a school and transforming an entire community for good.

Even $5 is gratefully accepted and propels positive change. The amount doesn't matter; the heart matters. 

Although giving is a reward in itself, Saddleback Church also allows any contributions you make to be tax-deductible.

2. Referrals for prayers and donations. Please share this initiative by email, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and any other means that can spread the word.

The deadline for any contributions to this effort will be April 30th - but the sooner the better.

If you do contribute, email me with your contact information so that I can (1) thank you personally; (2) get you tax-deduction information; and (3) answer any questions about the this mission, PEPE, and/or Saddleback Church.
