Pregnancy Crisis Care - Courtney's story
Hello, my name is Courtney. I would love your support in raising money for Pregnancy Crisis Care in Plymouth to help mothers, such as myself, after a loss of a baby.
Myself and close family and friends will be walking 10km around Plymouth to raise money for Pregnancy Crisis Care wearing the colour pink. I'd love for many others around Plymouth to join me on this journey.
I found out I was pregnant on the 7th January 2023 and was overjoyed with emotions. I instantly fell in love with the little life I was growing inside of me. It felt so magical and almost like a dream.
I announced the pregnancy to close family members and friends. I had my first midwife appointment. This was really happening, I was going to be a mother. Scan day came, the excitement I felt was almost unbearable, I was going to see my baby.
Sat in the waiting room seeing expecting mothers and fathers with their scan pictures. It was beautiful. It was my turn, my beautiful dream.
In fact it was my worst nightmare, the worst possible nightmare any expecting mother could have had come true. My baby didn't have a heart beat. I had experienced a missed miscarriage.
The scan showed the baby was only the size of a 7 week and 2 day pregnancy and there was no heartbeat. We were told we would have to wait a week to see if there was any growth and if there had been, then the baby might be big enough to have a detectable heartbeat.
That was one of the longest weeks of my life. Once the week was over, I had another scan. The baby didn't make any progress. My heart was broken. I got sat in a room to discuss my three options and the midwife informed me that that mother nature was likely take its course.
I also had two more losses that year. I called my baby's clouds. I lost my 2nd cloud at 6 weeks 1 day and my 3rd cloud at 4 weeks 3 days.
During this difficult time I came across Pregnancy Crisis. Pregnancy Crisis Care is a Plymouth-based charity helping women and their partners with any pregnancy related crisis by providing free, confidential, impartial support and counselling.
My story didn't end with the miracle of having a baby in my arms, like the story's you read. My story is real life and one of the many story's which are not spoken about.
I want to turn my story into something positive and to give back to this wonderful charity who have saved my life. I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them and the amazing work and resources they had to offer. The little keep sakes they give you, to cherish forever. To remember your baby.
An estimated 1 in 5 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. Estimates suggest there are 250,000 miscarriages every year in the UK and it is not spoken about as much as it should.
There isn't enough help to help grieving mothers, such as myself to get through this tragic event.
With your help, we can help fund Pregnancy Crisis to offer support to many more mothers and fathers who are struggling in silence.
