Praying for Gabe

Donation protected
Gabe Eye is a freshman football player at Hutchinson High School. Yesterday during a home football game against Derby he took a hit that left him side lined. After the hit he was taken to the sidelines and observed.  They seemed mostly concerned about a head injury, but seemed confident he didn’t have one.  His stomach kept hurting and he was nauseas.  After a while his blood pressure dropped really low and his nausea increased.  They recommended that he be taken to the hospital.  His parents Mike and Jessica Eye transported him by their vehicle to the Hutchinson hospital. He couldn’t even walk at this point.  Once they got him to Hutch Regional hospital he was taken in by wheel chair where he passed out before entering the hospital.  The staff was on top of things and rushed them in. Immediately treating him, and took him back for cat scans.  His parents were told he had a fractured spleen and would need transported to Wesley for surgery.  Jessica rode in the ambulance and Mike followed.   Doctors told them that his spleen was pretty shredded but they wanted to try and save the remaining portion of the spleen and avoid a splenectomy.  They did a procedure by going through the groin and the main blood vessel that feeds the spleen.  They inserted a coil to block the main blood flow to the spleen to stop the internal bleeding.  The majority of his spleen was lost due to damage from the injury.  He’s on his 2nd night in the pediatric ICU, he’s being closely monitored.  Blood levels have decreased throughout the day today so they are continuing to watch that.  He has been in a lot of pain today. They were also told that he has a fractured bone in his back. Due to the position of the break there is nothing to be done for it. It will have to heal on its own.  Gabe is expected to be here for at least four more days but they are unsure at this time. Hoping the rest of his spleen can be saved. Mike and Jessica are staying with him, their oldest daughter is currently caring for the younger 3 kids still at home.  They are hoping once Gabe is moved out of ICU to be able to drive back and forth to hutch to be with their other kids some too.

Please continue to pray for Gabe and his family with some of the uncertainty that lies ahead. His  full recovery is expected to be several months. Unsure of the time needed off to care for their son, medical expenses that will occur, additional monies needed for travel expenses and care while in the hospital. We hope to come together as a community to support this family in their time of need. Please feel free to share with your family and friends! Let’s show this family how much we love them!
