Paisley’s Story
On August 12, 2014, Wes and Madison Grissom became the proud parents of a beautiful little girl that they named Paisley Jayne. Paisley Jayne Grissom weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was 20¾ inches long. By all appearances Paisley was perfectly healthy.

Shortly after birth, her Doctor noticed a heart murmur, which was considered to be very minor. Little did we know that the heart murmur would indicate a much more serious medical condition.

Mom and baby were doing great. The second day after Paisley’s birth, the hospital was set to send them home. But that was not meant to be.

Following up on the murmur, an ultrasound of the heart was ordered. The findings were alarming. Her little heart was significantly enlarged. Very quickly, Paisley was on her way to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Egleston.

At Children’s she was placed in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Further tests uncovered still more heart problems. But a scan of the brain revealed the true problem.

On August 15, 2014, Paisley was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition: Vein of Galen Malformation (VOGM). This disorder effects the blood flow from the heart to the brain back to the heart again.

In the majority of us, oxygen rich blood flows from the heart to the brain through an aorta that then attaches to capillaries. Those capillaries disperse the nutrient rich blood to the brain, slow down the flow of the blood and deliver the depleted blood back to the heart via a vein.

In the Malformation, the capillaries are absent. So, the blood rushes turbulently through the aorta directly to the vein, creating a large aneurism and violently rushes the heart with blood. Paisley’s little heart was being overwhelmed because of the Vein of Galen Malformation.

The doctors have informed Paisley’s parents that the next year will be a “One step at a time” kind of life. Surgeries to correct the VOGM will be dangerous, but necessary. Her road to recovery will include several surgical procedures over the next year. Each surgery will be very risky.

We are setting up this fund to help Paisley’s mom and dad meet their financial obligations while they spend most of their time caring for sweet Paisley.

You can follow Paisley’s Story at her Facebook page, “Pray for Paisley.” Also there you can find links to help them financially as you feel inspired.

We believe what Mary Baker Eddy said long ago: “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.” May Divine Love continue to bless Paisley Jayne and all of those who love her, care for her and pray for her healing.
