Prayers For Karen

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,
This fundraising event has been setup to help Karen Pless and family with some of the financial hardships that have been placed upon them, with the devastating news of Karen’s recent diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  ALS is an incurable disease that brings on devastation and many financial obligations that are not funded by insurance, forcing the family to quickly identify resources.  Please help us to support Karen in her journey with this heart wrenching disease with your love, support and donations to help with medical expenses.  Karen and her family are deeply thankful for your generosity and support through this difficult time.

MORE INFO:
In April 2017, Karen Pless a working mother of 3 and grandmother of 2, was referred to a neurologist after unexplained weakness that was progressing.  When Karen went for her appointment, nothing could have prepared her for the neurologist’s preliminary diagnosis: Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.  After several months of testing, waiting and praying, Karen received the official diagnosis in August 2017 from Emory University.

ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neuron cells traveling from the brain stem through the spinal column to the muscles.  The progressive nature of this disease causes the motor neurons to die, leading to muscle weakness and eventually paralysis.  This is a terminal illness that has no cure at this time.

As this disease progresses, Karen will eventually become wheelchair dependent and will be paralyzed. This means that Karen’s home will need many home modifications, in order to prepare for this stage in the disease.  While Karen does have health insurance, there are still many health needs and expenses that fall on the patient and the family to fund.  Due to the progression of the disease, funds are needed now. Some of the expenses include medications, home modifications, quality of life medical equipment, home care assistance, wheelchair van, etc.

All funds received will be deposited in an account set up by Karen's daughter Lacie Mattox.
