Mid-November my Uncle Ray had an episode that bruised his brain, caused by exceedingly high blood pressure. The symptoms are similar to a stroke and may not be reversible. There is hope for recovery and we are praying for him everyday. Ray is the only source of income for himself and his wife, who is also dealing with health issues and unable to work.

Ray is a disabled Vietnam-era vet, serving his country back in the 70s. Through many hardships he fought his way back, and managed to earn his PhD in history, becoming Dr. Raymond A. Lohne. He published several books in history and taught American History of the Working Class at Columbia College in Chicago. His students absolutely LOVE him. His teaching style is unconventional. He teaches his students with actions such as helping the homeless, helping military vets and even shooting a music video about the Congress Hotel Strike.


Ray and his wife Laura lost their home earlier this year. With Ray's health crisis and the future of returning to work in doubt, they could really use some assistance to pay bills and medical expenses.
Although the VA has indicated medical bills will be covered, rehab is questionable and they need help for day to day living expenses.
My Uncle Ray is one of a kind. For the past 20 years, I've enjoyed so many great moments with him. He's the reason my Mother and I moved from Texas to Chicago. I've been blessed to have him in my life and am praying that he is able to overcome this. We lost my Grandfather earlier this year and we don’t want to lose him.

My heart is breaking. My stepfather Ray has a serious brain injury and cannot function on his own. My first feeling is Sadness, my second feeling is Anger. But now, I feel Blessed, to have had Ray Ray in my life for the last 25years. He has taken great care of my mom and I, ever since he walked in our lives. I can remember him working part time as a waiter, just to send me money in college. This is after working 50hrs a week as a mechanic. He barely knew me, but that's how much he loved my mom. As father figures go, the list starts and stops with Raymond Lohne. I've made so many bad decisions in my life, and most people would've given up on me. He never did. Anytime I needed him, he was always there for me. From being a great father, to being the best grandfather, I will always appreciate and love you for that. I'm praying everyday, and I know you won't give up. I Love you Ray Ray. Today and Forever.
