Kelly's Medical Fund

Donation protected
I am starting this gofundme account for my cousin, Kelly; whom was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor. The donations received from this fund will help with all out of pocket expenses he may incur.  He is scheduled for surgery to have the tumor removed April 6th.  Please keep him in your prayers and if you can spare even the smallest amount it would be greatly appreciated. Below is a statement from Kelly:

I was diagnosed with a brain tumor after experiencing symptoms for over a year.  It began several years ago in fact, because I have worked in loud manufacturing production environments and had a perforated left ear drum as a child, I didn't think too much about the possible causes of worsening hearing in my left ear.  I simply tried to protect my hearing and didn't imagine it was anything severe nor did I feel I had the means to further pursue the matter.

About a year ago, I began to experience some eye-twitching and odd sensation in and around my left eye.  I started by seeing an opthamalogist, and acute-angle glaucoma was diagnosed.  I then received laser treatment in both eyes.  Though there was some improvement in symptoms, though the involuntary twitching, lack of coordinated muscle movements, and odd sensation all continued.

I also had some issue with my equilibrium, particularly when standing or turning quickly.  I then  saw an otolaryngologist regarding the equilibrium and hearing issues.  Some lessened hearing in my left ear was found with testing, but otherwise there were no real answers to be had.

I then made another appointment with my internist, who gave me a full set of lab testing to rule out anything they could, which was no help.  She then recommended a neurologist.  The neurologist ordered an MRI.  The MRI showed a tumor that is over an inch in size and is compressing the brain stem some.  It also shows some presence of the tumor in my ear canal, and there is a question whether it is a meningioma or an acoustic shwannoma.  I am told by the neurosurgeons that the tumor is likely benign, but I am likely to lose hearing in my left ear in the process of removing the tumor especially if it is an acoustic shwannoma.  However the eye-twitching and odd sensations, will hopefully improve afterwards as the pressure upon my facial nerve will be relieved and in time may regain normal function.

I am helping my mom deal with some of her medical issues, she is focusing on pursuing medical treatment herself and is presently unable to work.  We live together and are doing alright, but these medical bills and the stress of trying to stay on top of things can severely impact our ability to stay viable going forward.  Anxiety and depression are a factor for both of us.  There are a number of other things that need addressed and this could really be a tipping point for our quality of life and our health as well.

I am asking for assistance with paying for these treatments as well as the cost of maintaining our apartment and expenses during an anticipated month-long recovery.  There is likely to be other needs of course, but most pressing will be the cost of my portion of rent, food, gas, insurance, and utilities.  This totals about $1500.  The total costs of all the copay for all of my medical treatments may be closer to $9000.  I am blessed to have insurance now that brings it to that number, and I appreciate any help that is given.

God Bless,

Kelly
