Update on Nick 3/22/18:
Nick spent a long month at Long Beach Memorial and we are happy to annouce that yesterday he was moved to a rehab facility. One step closer to a full recovery! Although it will still be a long road ahead, I think I can speak for everyone when we say how happy we are for how far he has already come! He is getting physical therapy everyday to get stronger. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Update on Nick 3/8/18:
Nick is continuing to improve everyday! He has been moved out of the ICU! Two nights ago he ate his first meal after the accident and did great. The nurse was impressed with how well he did, this was a big step towards getting his feeding tube removed. He is awake and talking but still very confused and getting acclimated to his new situation.  We are so grateful for the out pouring of love and support he has received. Thank you!!

Update on Nick 3/5/18:
Nick was taken off the ventilator this weekend and is now breathing on his own.  It was time.  He is responding favorably, but has to acclimate himself to this new situation.  He has been very animated as he adapts and has been opening his eyes and even spoke his parents names.  He is still heavily sedated because of the pain he still must feel from the broken ribs.  Right now, the doctors are concerned about neurological issues as one of his eyes is wandering.  They performed a MRI yesterday and we should hear about the results later today.

He has started to take small amounts of water (ice chips actually) orally, but is still being fed through a tube.   This is a major step towards his recovery and we are very hopeful he will be making better progress now that he is breathing on his own.

For now, the doctors feel that he should have as few visitors as possible because he gets very agitated when visitors come in.  We would like to keep it to just parents for the time being.  Once he gets acclimated to his new situation and more fully understands where he is and why, he can better accept visitors.

Thanks again for all your prayers and good thoughts as he moves down this long road to recovery.

My step-brother Nick was in a tragic accident on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.  He was critically injured.  Nick is a hard worker, a fun loving guy who loves to snowboard and hang out with his buddies.  He is fighting hard for his life in the ICU.  He suffered a brain bleed which they believe to be stable at this time. He underwent immediate surgery to stop his internal bleeding.  There are no post surgery complications at this time however, he has multiple fractures and two punctured lungs.  He has chest tubes in place to aid with draining the air and blood from his lungs.  He is on a ventilator but the goal this week is to change the settings to see if he can breathe on his own without as much assistance from the machine.  We are focusing on the positive and this morning he was able to follow command from the nurse.  He held two thumbs up and he was able to squeeze the nurses hands.  He even opened his eyes when asked!!  We do not know what the future holds for Nick or what he will encounter on the long road ahead.  With heartfelt gratitude and from the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate your healing prayers, your positive thoughts and support.  We will continue to update his condition as we get information.  Thank you. #prayfornick
