Marilyn's story
For those who have been privileged to know the Rice family you know how extremely special they are. It comes with great sadness, however overwhelming feelings of triumph that I share this story with you.
Marilyn has had a rough go of it these past 6 weeks. She developed a blockage of her femoral artery in her left leg and after 4 surgeries to try to get the blood circulating back into her foot, it was determined that she needed to lose her leg below the knee. This happened 2 weeks ago and now after spending almost 5 weeks in the hospital, she is now in a rehab center, trying to get her strength back and learning how to function until her wound heals enough to be fitted for a prosthetic.
This will be a very long process, but they are optimistic that all will work out in the end. As I learned of this from Gerald, he said that they will get through this and create a new norm as they go along. They are still blessed that they get to sit and watch sunsets together which is something they have always cherished. As you can imagine this process has not been nice to the checkbook.
