PPEs for CMC Vellore, India - COVID-19 2nd WAVE

Tax deductible
In 2020, your donations, totaling $12,536 during the first wave of COVID-19, helped the nonprofit Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC) buy Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for doctors, nurses, and technicians providing critical care to infected patients in the South Indian town of Vellore, India.

Each day, nearly 10,000 patients make their way from all across India to CMC for top-level treatment, offered at a subsidized rate or at no cost to people who cannot afford hospital care.

CMC's healthcare professionals are yet again in urgent need of our help.  India is now the global hotspot for COVID-19, with 20,282,833 confirmed cases and 222,408 deaths as of 3 PM EST, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2021, according to the Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Virus Resource Center. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/region/india  Please join me in raising funds ASAP for N95 respirator masks, gowns, goggles, gloves and other PPE to protect these brave professionals on the front lines.

This cause is personal to me. In 2018, my mother was injured in a car accident on the Bangalore-Madras highway, which left her a  quadriplegic and fighting for her life. We lost her after 21 days in the ICU, where I saw and experienced firsthand the compassion and humanity of the doctors, nurses and technicians at CMC. No one was turned away because they were poor, all were extended the same dignity that every human being deserves. I talked to other women — one whose relative was recovering after an iron rod from a bullock cart spoke had pierced through his stomach; another whose brother was in surgery — she had come to CMC a couple of times before, she said, and always went back home with some money left, rather than incurring medical debt like many did at for-profit hospitals. People in economic hardship who had accompanied sick relatives slept in the open courtyard, placing their faith in the doctors and in the system. They believed in it, and so do I. I think of these women as my sisters, and a few of my mother’s doctors have become dear friends.

All donations are 100% tax deductible and 100% of the dollars received will be sent to CMC Vellore, India, via the Vellore CMC Foundation, New York.

Please offer your support at this critical time. No amount is too small.

P.S. A shoutout to kids in team Anti-Coronavirus, for making cards, wearable art, and shrinkable charms for family and friends in exchange for a donation to this fundraiser: Advaith, Anoushka, Ilakkiya, Neil, Nikhil, Oviya, Pragnya, Prisha, Shreya, and Veera. You rock!
