Power of Produce Program 2023

Do you believe that all kids and youth deserve to be excited about fresh, healthy food? If your answer is yes, then the Power of Produce Program at the Annandale Farmers Market is an effective way to make a difference.

The Power of Produce (PoP) program is a successful and beloved farmers market initiative that promotes healthy eating and local agriculture for young people. All kids and youth ages 1-18 are eligible to receive $4 in tokens each week to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs at the farmers market. The PoP program connects all ages to local agriculture, gets them excited about produce, and transforms the Annandale market into a family affair.
Since the introduction of PoP in 2018 we’ve increased youth participation by 130%, and our overall attendance by an incredible 311%! In 2021 over 525 youth and 260 families participated in the program, averaging 155 visits per market. That means we distribute roughly $620 in local produce each week from June through September.
The PoP program brings entire families to downtown Annandale every Saturday in the summer. These are families from Annandale, the many local lakes, Kimball, South Haven, etc. and they continue to spend their money in the community throughout the weekend. This program does more than distribute food to young people, it increases local quality of life, and contributes to the vitality of our magical community.

We want to grow even more! More kids, more produce, more healthy families! Our $10,000 goal will enable us to welcome even more kids, youth, and families to the farmers market. The vast majority of our funds go directly towards awarding the $4 in tokens. A small percentage of funds will be used for marketing (printing flyers), purchasing more tokens, and printing stickers for participants.

In addition to this fundraising account, we have collecting sponsorships from local businesses and organizations.

If your business or organization would like to sponsor the PoP Program, you may also do so through this GoFundMe campaign! Please additionally contact program coordinator Marnie Macgregor at [email redacted] to learn about our sponsorship program.
