Power Beyond Borders Mass Action Camp

This summer, Reclaim the Power is hosting Power Beyond Borders. At this mass action camp we will take direct action against Drax and its fossil gas infrastructure which is fueling the climate crisis, as well as educating and training ourselves up to show solidarity with people facing the UK’s inhumane border regime.

For the first time Reclaim the Power is explicitly focusing on migrant justice as well as fighting fossil fuels in our work for climate justice. As a group we're committed to social, economic and environmental justice, and understand that all oppressions are linked.

We have launched this crowdfunder to raise funds for Power Beyond Borders to ensure this camp can be a success in the fight for climate and migrant justice.

Reclaim the Power is a non-profit grassroots group with no paid staff – everyone volunteers their time to work towards a better world. But fighting the climate crisis and corporate power isn’t cheap, and we rely on small grants and donations to organise our events.

Please donate what you can and share this far and wide among your friends and family.
If you would love to come to the camp but can't, a suggested solidarity donation is £20 for unwaged and £35 for waged.

Please donate what you can, the costs of the camp include: 
£5 to pay for 3 meals at the camp for one person
£10 to support subsidised travel for one person to the camp
£25 to cover food for one person for the whole camp
£100 to cover one toilet on camp for one day
£300 to cover getting an awesome speaker or workshop leader to the camp
£1,000 to cover the cost of one shuttle bus for one day

Our mass action camp is part of a wider campaign to axe Drax (the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions in the UK), and grow a climate and migrant justice movement with the tools people need to get involved in a way that works for them.

Why Gas Fired Power Stations?
Drax Power is planning to build the UK’s largest gas fired power station this autumn. If granted, this will be the largest single source of carbon dioxide in the UK (including Heathrow) and will lock our energy system to fossil fuels for decades.
The UK is currently planning more big gas powered electricity infrastructure than anywhere else in Europe. With Germany and others indicating that they'll be following the UK's lead on the issue, what happens with Drax could help halt the development of new gas fired power stations across Europe and push us towards a more democratic, clean energy future.
It’s up to us to turn off the gas and show investors and the government what real action for the climate looks like.

Why the 'Hostile Environment'?
In our communities migrants and people targeted by racism face multiple threats to their ability to lead their lives. In this Brexit-fueled era we want to stand in solidarity with them in facing down the racism of the state’s Hostile Environment and the emboldened far-right. To do this work well we need to start by listening to the incredible activists at the sharp end of migrant justice.
The programme for the camp will cover informative and inspiring talks and trainings on climate justice and will be packed with chances to learn about the impact of the Hostile Environment, and ways we take action against it for migrant justice.
