Powel Arts and Enrichment Fundraiser

Samuel Powel Elementary School is a tiny but powerful K-4 public elementary school in West Philadelphia. The people of Powel believe in the power of the arts to enrich and even transform elementary education.

Will you help?

This fundraiser will support arts and enrichment opportunities for our eager Powel Owls for the 2019-2020 school year. Teachers and students will produce a full-scale musical, The Lion King, integrated within a school-wide thematic unit study of Africa. Guest artists, field trips, assemblies and residencies will support teachers in exploring with their students ancient cultures of Africa: Songhai, Yoruba, Mali, Ghana, and Ashanti.

You can help make such opportunities possible.

To give you a sense of how your money will help:

$8 pays admission to Penn’s New Africa Galleries or other museum for one child
$25 buys one gallon of paint
$75 purchases supplies for a classroom art project
$200 funds a teacher grant for enrichment materials
$400 supports purchase or repair of a musical instrument
$600 pays for a teacher-led extracurricular instruction in African Dance, STEP team, track or other activities
$750 pays for a guest artist for an African dance & drumming mini-residency
$1000 pays for a school-wide performance assembly
$2000 would cover supplies for our spring musical performance of The Lion King!
