Please help us save Porge

#poundsforporge

As you may or may not know, Georgia (Porge) Bryant has been fighting a battle against Leukaemia for the last 7 months. During her fight she has endured numerous rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a bone marrow transplant in an attempt to rid her of the disease. However, Porge has recently discovered that her treatment has failed.  The only option Porge is left with is to urgently take part in a clinical trial, to qualify for the trial Porge needs a course of treatment that is not funded by the NHS. On behalf of Porge and her family, we’d like to ask the community to come together as we know only the Chew Valley can and raise the funds required.

A message from the Chew Valley Family (CVF)…

If you live in Chew Valley and don’t know Porge, chances are you’ll know of her. Whether it’s from her tireless fundraising, her reformation of the Chew Valley ladies rugby team (Chew Valley Cats) or just the numerous years she’s spent propping up the bar in the Bear & Swan, Porge has a face and a voice that rarely goes unnoticed.

As many of you will remember, CVF, lead by Porge have hosted charity events in celebration of our good friend Abbie who sadly lost her fight against cervical cancer in June 2016. These events raised an amazing amountfor the Teenage Cancer Trust in Abbie’s memory and owe their success largely to Porge’s determination and organisation.

Devastatingly, and in what seems to be an unfair turn of events, just over a year after Abbie lost her fight against cancer, in September 2017, Porge herself was diagnosed with Leukaemia. After 3 months of chemotherapy  and intense radiotherapy and with thanks to the Anthony Nolan Trust, for identifying a donor,on 5th January 2018 Porge underwent a bone marrow transplant. Following her transplant she spent a gruelling three weeks in isolation as part of her 100 day post-transplant recovery period. Porge responded in text book fashion to her treatment, improving day by day . However, just as she was beginning to feel ‘sexy’ again, life threw yet another hurdle her way. On 3rd April 2018 Porge was taken back into hospital where she discovered that her Leukaemia was back.

After initially being told that she only had a ‘glimmer of hope’ in terms of survival, the Professor in charge of Porge’s treatment has now advised that she is able to take part in a clinical trial which has the potential to save her life. This treatment comes at a cost. It’s complicated but, the NHS cannot fund the medicine Porge needs so we’re asking the Chew Valley and the nation to come together and support us . What has already been a battle for Porge is only about to get harder but we know we can achieve this with your help.

The initial treatment Porge needs will cost an estimated £100,000, she will then need to take part in a clinical trial. However if there is no availability on a UK trial, she will need to travel to America for treatment... this could be the start of a long road of fundraising!

CVF, with the help of adult CVF will be crowd funding in numerous ways over the coming weeks and months kicking off with an event at Chew Valley Rugby Club on 5th May 2018 (details to follow). #poundsforporge will be our hashtag, along with our Facebook Group handle so look out for this. Please invite your friends and share share share!

We need all the help we can get to save Porge and prevent this disease from taking another member of CVF too soon. Please do what you can to help us to help Porge.
