Post-Part Kitchener Walking Exhibition

Donation protected
PostPart  is an inter-arts project inspired by the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Gilman's main character, modelled after her own personal experience, finds herself prescribed the "resting cure" by her own physician husband after having given birth. She is isolated from her child and put on strict order to rest, within a room covered in what she refers to as "putrid" yellow wallpaper. She becomes slowly obsessed with the wallpaper and convinced within it lives a women needing to escape. So begin a slow decent into Postpartum Psychosis. Combining illustration, RGB filter technology, collage and audio composition, Post-Part asks its audience to step into the experience of Postpartum Mood Disorders.

In light of the current pandemic and it’s restrictions on physical exhibitions, Post-Part is having to reimagine how we can continue to exhibit, and thus advocate and educate for Perinatal Mental Health services. Originally built as a room within a room installation, we can no longer depend on indoor gallery spaces to exhibit this project and are thus pivoting. This pivot is also allowing us to expand and have a farther reach, which we are fully embracing.

We are thrilled to be partnering with the City of Kitchener, to translate our previous in-person exhibition to an outdoor walking exhibition anchored in city windows.  We have partnered with Postpartum Support International's Climbing Out of the Darkness Walk in order to allow those who sign up for the event to walk the exhibition as their walk to raise awareness. Though we have received incredible support thus far, the short turnaround for this project leaves us no options for grant funding other than those micro grants already received. In order to continue to connect the project strongly to Kitchener, and Waterloo Region, we are asking for help from the community.  In order to be able to pay for all of our vinyl printing for our windows, as well as fairly pay artist collaborators, we hope you will consider sponsoring or donating to the project.

Here is how your donations can help:
