As part of our continuing commitment to the youth of our community, the Joliet Police Department is proud to host a Law Enforcement Explorer Program. The demand for youth to carry good American values is ever increasing. This worthwhile program is a step toward molding young adults in that direction.
The Explorer Program is open to boys and girls between 14 and 21 years old interested in law enforcement. Explorers receive a multitude of training on different topics and participate in safe scenarios, as implemented by both sworn and non-sworn dedicated members of the Joliet Police Department. Exploring focuses not only on vocational skills, but emphasizes service, leadership, social behavior, and self-confidence. The program coaches at-risk youth throughout their high school career, and prepares them for success by building life skills. Explorers also pride themselves in their community service commitment, completing more than 2500 hours since 2008.
In order to be effective and safe as an Explorer Post, we are looking to acquire equipment such as two-way radios, black work boots, black patent leather belts, flashlights, storage containers, rain gear, and uniform supplies such as new or used duty belts.
We are seeking financial donations to cover the cost of Explorer training events, such as the Illinois Law Enforcement Explorer State Conference, held in August every other year. The Explorers work hard throughout the year to raise money through a multitude of fundraisers for this program.
Please consider a financial contribution to our program. Remember, this is a chance for us adults to help shape the character of those who hold our future. All donations ensure that these young adults can participate regardless of finances.
