My name is Diane. I have been married for 27 incredibly wonderful years to a man named Jim. There are just not enough adjectives to describe him. We have been blessed with two wonderful, hard working, caring young men. I could not have asked for a more wonderful husband. Jim is the type of man who has always put the needs of others before himself. He will drop everything to come to the aid of family and friends. I would like to share a little description of Jim. He is a avid car buff. He has always had a love of cars and is a very talented auto technician . He was fortunate enough to indulge his passion for cars for many years. We are both 49 years old. At the age of 41, Jim was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Like a lot of people, it took us by complete surprise. The cancer was very advanced at the time of the diagnosis. What followed was years of surgeries. Hospital stays, chemotherapy, and radiation. Unfortunately the medical procedures took a toll on him. He had to go on permanent disability and was unable to continue work due to the physical demands of his job. I also lost my career due to down sizing. In a matter of years,we went from two well paying careers to permanent disability for my husband and a part time job for myself. Also, during the cancer, our children were younger at that time and it obviously took a toll on our entire family. We are now faced with overwhelming medical and everyday bills. Cancer is a horrible disease which impacts the entire family. We are fortunate to still have our home which means the world to us because my husband's father, who passed also from cancer, built the house. Needless to say, it holds many wonderful memories . I would just like to share a bit more about my husband. He is the type of person who would help anyone without question. Just one of many examples of this is years ago we were going on vacation. It was late at night and we passed a car broken down on the roadway. Without giving it a thought, my husband stopped to assist. He gave them some money, water, and food. They asked for our address in order to repay us, but Jim would not even consider it. I have witnessed him get out of bed while undergoing chemotherapy, sick and extremely fatigued to help a friend in need. Jim is the best husband, father, and friend I could ever hope to have. For the past 9 years, I have been his main caretaker and through it all, he has never given up and has bravely fought this disease. He is now in remission, however his doctors have recently discovered another tumor which may require surgery. It has been extremely difficult to watch the man I love with all my heart go through this. And needless to say it has taken a toll on our children. My one and only wish is to see him regain his health and maybe have the chance to indulge his love of cars again. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those families dealing with cancer or any type of medical issues. Thank you for letting me share our story.
