The renaming of Post 60 after beloved Past Commander George Szollosi
Our Past Commander, George Szollosi served during the Vietnam War by enlisting in the United States Army. Shortly after receiving an honorable discharged George was formerly employed with the Roselle Park Board of Education as a Custodian for approximately 26 years. There he worked for the Roselle Park Middle School, where he was loved by the staff and children he aided during his tenure.
Furthermore, George continued his service to the community he cherished by volunteering his time as well as becoming a long term member American Legion Post 60, which is located in the city of Roselle Park, New Jersey for over 40 years. During the last eight years, George passionately held the position of Commander of Post 60. Early on as Commander, George would sacrifice monies from his own pocket in order to maintain a facility dedicated for veterans and seniors within the Roselle Park surrounding community.
Passing of fallen Comrade and Service Officer, Francis Schantz
It brings me great sorrow to report that American Legion, Veterans Group, Post 60 unexpectedly lost a great hero, Service Officer and friend named Francis Schantz. Frank was a proud graduate of Roselle Catholic High School. After graduating high school, Frank enlisted and served the country he loved so much by joining the United States Marine Corps; Semper Fi!
Frank was an electrician with the IBEW Local 102 labor union, which is located in Parsippany, NJ as well as a lifelong resident of Roselle. He continued to devote his time by becoming an active member in Post 60, where he would participate in town events, while serving as the post liaison helping veterans and seniors with vital support and information.
Detrimental loss of Rental Hall proceeds due to the covid-19 pandemic
During these uncanny times, the American Legion, Post 60 has experienced several devastating harms to the post, whether it be the loss of essential members or a financial hindrance due to covid-19 restrictions. Nevertheless, this post has been a part of the Roselle Park’s history and community since June 11, 1928 and our current veterans intend to keep it around, servicing veteran, seniors and the community for years to come.
On a normal basis the proceeds produced from our rental hall would have provided our non-profit institution more than enough revenue to maintain the upkeep of our day to day operations, renovations and or restorations of our facility. Unfortunately, we too have felt the heavy burden of these covid restrictions like many organizations. Today, Post 60, is humbly asking for donations to help with the renaming and redesigning of the front exterior of our post regarding our beloved past Commander, George Szollosi. Additional donations received will then be utilized towards the repair, upkeep and overhaul of the facility. Your help in facilitating this process to achieve these goals to raise donations will be tremendously appreciated by the veterans that served this country here in Roselle Park.
