Possible Garden 2022

The Corner of 25th ave & 1st Street SW in the Mission Community of downtown Calgary was once occupied with a 5plex built in 1912. During the 2013 flood, the building was severely damaged, and needed to be torn down in 2015. Since then, the corner lot has been vacant land known as The Dirt.

 

In 2020, it was time to rejuvenate The Dirt. It was time to bring life back to the corner of 1st and 25ave SW. Every year small steps were made to fill the foundation, and will help of friends, slowly level the lot. In June of 2020, with friends, we started to forge our own path. Literally. We dug in the ground and built a path through The Dirt. And as the old story goes, 'if you build it, they will come'. Garden beds were built. Gardeners came to plant. And the Possible Garden was born and it flourished.

 

In 2021, with the help of many individual sponsors and a few key sponsors such as Harbour Environmental Group (https://harbourenvgroup.ca) who generously provided the rich soil to fill 40 raised garden beds. Without their help, we would not have been able to operate last year. We are so incredibly grateful to everyone who has provided their support so far in the project. We hope to continue to provide a safe, accepting and enjoyable space for the community.
  

The Possible Garden Project would very much love continue to operate the garden for the Summer of 2022. This GoFundMe page has been created to provide an opportunity for community members to support the project. The funds will go directly towards operating the garden with a portion going towards supporting local charities.

 

Expenses needed for this year are soil, mulch, raised beds, tools, hoses, water supply, gravel and possibly a community bulletin board. We'd also very much like to support education and community programs.
