Theo came down with a fever of 106.7 Tuesday 6/10/25 and could not get up, was originally admitted to the animal ER (SAVES) in critical condition, they could not find a source of infection, and later transferred and admitted to Massachusetts Referral Hospital for Internal Medicine. Theo has had various diagnostics (X-rays, bloodwork, cultures). They called it Fever of Unknown origin (FUO) and started treatment on three different antibiotics. He unfortunately did not respond to any antibiotics and it was deemed not a tick borne origin as originally thought. At Massachusetts Referral Hospital, they performed a joint tap and found polyarthritis in both hind stifles with possible septic joints, which likely has been the cause of his persistent high fevers. Endocarditis of the heart is often linked to polyarthritis, and Theo will need a cardiology work up and echocardiogram to rule out infection within his heart that may have travelled to his joints and caused the peripheral infection. He has been started on a IV steroid to help bring the fever down on Saturday 6/14/25.
As many of you know, Theo is a service trained/scent trained dog for POTS/dysautonomia. He has made a huge change in my life over the past 5 years of his young life and assisted in management of my condition. He means everything to me and I would do anything for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated for assist in his medical bills and treatments. I will keep everyone posted on his recovery.
