 STORY
Lali Cardozo lives for part of the year at an orphanage in Zambia with her 3 year old daughter and partner. She was torn between returning to England and staying in Zambia when the Corona virus broke out, but following everyone’s  advice came to England to keep her daughter safe, and Lali has her own serious health conditions. If things got really bad she knew that the chances of survival in a Zambian hospital, compared to a British hospital would be precarious to say the least. Her partner has stayed in Lusaka, Zambia as his help at the orphanage is vital.

Just before Lali left she bought enough nshima for the children at the orphanage for three months. The school adjoined is a day care centre where children can go if they cannot afford school, there they are given a meal a day and a primary education. They plan to re-open on 1st June.

Very little funding has been coming into the orphanage and school during lockdown. So we are hoping that the money raised through this competition will be a fun little project for the competitors, but help with daily survival at the orphanage and school.
