Port to Port Charity Walk

Donation protected
What is it?

The 'Port to Port Charity Walk' is a 600km walk from Port Augusta, SA to Port Elliot, SA. This is being conducted by two teachers, inspired by the adversities their students were facing and determined to make a difference in the lives of young people everywhere by proving that with resilence, determination and a positive mindset anything can be achieved. The donations from this charity walk will go to The Smith family and beyondblue to assist them in continuing to successfully make a difference in the areas of mental health and disadvantaged children

What inspired the walk?

Danni and Lyndon are two teachers who recently ran an activity called ‘I wish my teacher knew’ with their students. This began by them sharing things with their students about how much they believed in them and care for them and in return the students wrote back about things they wanted to share with their teachers. Although there were several positive responses many were truly saddening in terms of the adversities they are facing and their poor wellbeing.
The responses were;

“I wish my teacher knew I have no hope for the future and I’m scared for my life.”

“I wish my teacher knew I HATE ME and my family tell me I’m worthless.”

“I wish my teacher knew that I have been depressed for 5 years and have been falling deeper and deeper into a pool of disgust and hate for myself.”

Upon reading this they decided that they needed to do something that would not only make a difference but would also inspire their students and others going through similar situations. They will be completing a 30 day, 600km charity walk from Port Augusta to Port Elliot in December 2015 to raise money and awareness for The Smith Family and beyondblue as they see both of these charities already successfully making a difference in the areas of mental health and disadvantaged children.

Danni and Lyndon hope to demonstrate that with nothing more than a little determination and a positive mindset that young people everywhere have the ability to achieve the seemingly impossible, regardless of their circumstances. No child should grow up without hope, without dreams or without someone in their lives to believe in them. With this we hope that young people everywhere will dream a little more and aim a little higher for the happy future they all deserve.
