Portland Mass Shooting - Paralyzed Survivor Fund

On February 19th 2022 our dear friend survived a mass shooting in Portland, Oregon.

Since being paralyzed from the shoulders down, she remains on a long road to recovery. Her life will never be the same, and so many things that brought her joy have been stolen from her. This fundraiser seeks to bring some of that joy back into her life.

Prior to being shot, she was a well known and well loved face within the mutual aid community, giving much of her time back to others. She was also known widely for her dedicated work as a traffic safety volunteer, defending and uplifting those whose voices are too often silenced.

Throughout her recovery she has remained the incredible woman we’ve always known; her capacity to love and care for others has been unwavering. She’s faced this unimaginable tragedy with strength and grace, at times even with the humor we’ve long cherished her for. She remains the person in the room most likely to make you laugh when you least expect it. She remains our dearest friend.

In late 2021 she purchased a scooter, and was thrilled to join her friends in the unique joy and freedom one finds only on two wheels. This joy and freedom is what we aim to return to her with this fundraiser.

We’ve located someone who makes custom sidecars for motorcycles, and they’re prepared to build one that accommodates her specific needs: a sidecar for a wheelchair. To bring her joy and freedom is priceless.

To buy a sidecar is $6,000.

We are looking to the outside community for help in reaching that final goal to expedite this gift for her. The job will take time to complete, and we hope to be on the road with her for the spring of next year, reclaiming the season she missed while hospitalized in 2022.

Since her life-changing injury, we’ve stood by our promise never to leave her behind. This gift is but one way to show that on feet or on wheels, she will have us beside her.

In Dog we trust.
