Porter Chapek’s Medical Expenses

Donation protected
A year ago today this amazing little boy was brought into our lives.

Happy 1st Birthday Porter Daniel!

As as many of you know, Porter was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate. Nariah and Bre have been strong in preparing themselves for each obstacle as it comes; sleep habits, teaching Porter to eat four times, and multiple surgeries (to name a few) — yet they still continue to face more unexpected hurdles.

On Thursday August 9, 2018, Porter had undergone his second surgery to repair the palate. It was a successful surgery, where shortly after Porter was intubated for 3 days and was awakened on Sunday (wanting the palate to be mostly healed with the least amount of pain).  Sunday and Monday were spent waking him up slowly, managing pain and learning how to eat again.

Today, Porter's first birthday, during a feeding Bre and Nariah noticed a hole in the roof of his mouth.

As this was brought to the nurses and surgeons attention, the surgeon immediately suggested 'Oxygen Therapy'- a process in which both Bre and Porter will lay in a chamber, 1-2 times a day for 2 hours; while they double the oxygen levels inside. This will allow the body and most importantly his mouth tissues to heal in a rapid fashion with the hope of avoiding any additional surgeries.

Porter will need this oxygen therapy over the next 7-10 days with Nariah & Bre continuing their stay at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

With medical expenses accrued and continuing to accrue as additional hurdles take place; their expenses have become greater than they were expecting. Nariah and Bre were suppose to be heading back to work within the week and now Bre needs to take unpaid leave as well as incure the added cost of living in Rochester.

Nariah and Bre would like to thank everyone for the Facebook comments, text messages and prayers. They can feel the love pouring in from everyone for Porter, which has helped in difficult and stressful times.

For anyone that would like to help; any donation amount would be greatly appreciated. My hope is that we can help cover as much of the medical bill as possible but at the very least, provide a cushion for the time off they will be taking to be there for Porter.

One of the verses that Bre has posted:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight” Proverbs 3:5-6
