We are setting up this Go Fund me page for our friend Catherine.
Catherine has always lived life to the full and is always on the go, enjoying time with her husband Colin and two children, Ethan, 4 and Kara, 3.
Last April, after finding a small lump in her breast, Catherine went to the doctors. As she was breastfeeding, Catherine assumed it to be a blocked duct however in May 2017, at just 28 years old, Catherine was diagnosed with breast cancer, and then further diagnosed in June with stage 4 - the cancer having already spread to her liver and lungs.
Surgery has been ruled out and Catherine is about to start a second round of chemotherapy with the aim of keeping the cancer at bay for as long as possible.
Unfortunately Catherine is very scared of needles – not ideal when you need to receive chemotherapy via a cannula! The other option offered by the NHS for administering the chemotherapy is a line but this is more prone to infection and will make normal day to day activities difficult or impossible, really limiting what Catherine can do with her children. Simple things like taking them swimming, sledging in the snow, normal family life that we all take for granted will become very difficult.
Catherine really would love to be able to receive this round of chemotherapy through a port rather than the line or cannula. The port will mean that Catherine can still lead as normal a life as possible (as normal as life can be while receiving chemotherapy). But it isn't cheap. As it is not currently available on the NHS, Catherine needs to fund this privately and has been quoted £1500-£3000.
So we are asking, please, please help if you can, donate and share or simply share. Let's help Catherine get this port! Anything raised above the amount required for the port will be donated to Maggies Centre at Newcastle which has provided much needed support to Catherine and her family since diagnosis.
