Old school BMX freestyle tires

Donation protected

Porkchop BMX  is a small, U.S. based company that specializes in parts for BMX bicycles from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's.  With the rise in nostalgic popularity of these bikes about 10 years ago, prices of original items skyrocketed and have now become scarce. Many of us enjoy riding these old bikes and therefore new sources of consumable items (tires, grips, seats, pedals, etc.) are essential. That is where Porkchop BMX comes in: we have many of the old items manufactured new so that collectible items are not destroyed through use and to keep the hobby financially within reach to everyone.

One of the toughest items for a small company like us to source are tires. Bicycle tire manufacturing relies heavily on economies of scale, so 1000's must be made at one time.  A minimum order across a range of colors and sizes will fill anywhere from 3 to 10 years of demand. This means a tremendous amount of cash must be tied up in inventory for a long period of time.

To help offset that cost and to make as many choices available to the old school BMX community as possible, we have started this gofundme campaign.

If we can reach our goal, we will have the following products available around mid to late January 2015:

Kenda K50 Comp III tread 20" X 1.75" BLACK
Kenda K50 Comp III tread 20" X 2.125" BLACK
Kenda K50 Comp III tread 20" X 1.75" BLUE
Kenda K50 Comp III tread 20" X 2.125" BLUE
Kenda K50 Comp III tread 20" X 1.75" RED
Kenda K50 Comp III tread 20" X 2.125" RED
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" BLACK
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" WHITE
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" BLUE
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" GREEN
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" ORANGE
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" PINK
Kenda K55 freestyle 20" X 1.75" LAVENDER

Here is what the K55 tread looks like - it is Kenda's copy of the Panaracer freestyle tread:

All tires will have a natural tan sidewall and will be a true skinwall tire. Skinwall means that the nylon casing has just a thin layer of rubber on the sidewall, saving about 30% of the weight of a thick gumwall tire.

Although I don't have the finished tires to show you, below are color samples from Kenda. As you can see, especially with the green, pink, and lavender, these are the CORRECT 80's colors:

We actually have a few of these tires in stock now (see links in the list), but this campaign will allow for the full inventory above to be in stock by the end of January 2015.

And, for your help, we've established generous rewards!
