Building Bridges of Solidarity!

Donation protected

I am fundraising (with your help!) to bring an amazing Afro-Bolivian educator, activist, and organizer to come with me to Honduras to give hope, support, solidarity, and skills to some amazing women there who are organizing and fighting back under the current Honduran dictatorship. Will you help? Read more below!

In November I will be traveling to Honduras  as part of a delegation to increase solidarity with some bad-ass feminist organizers/activists (Foro de Mujeres Por La Vida). We are creating an intentionally feminist itinerary focused on helping to visibilize their struggles (a political move), as well come together to imagine/create/build the world that we know can exist, even as we learn about the horrors these women face under the current Honduran dictatorship. We will learn how they fight back, organize, and resist. They also want to know how we organize so that they might learn new things.

I have kind of a wild idea. I think it would be amazing to invite someone from Bolivia to join the delegation. I already got my work to offer scholarships to two US-based, latinx, female activists to come with us so that we can build deeper, more diverse relations. However, when I spoke with one of the key Honduran organizers last time I was there she said that she wanted to learn more about indigenous feminism. Of course I thought of Bolivia.

So now I'm fundraising to get an amazing, bad-ass, Afro-Bolivian organizer /activist /educator /student /artist to Honduras.

Many of you know Sandy for the work she's done with Dragons, teaching us about worlds we have never known and about realities we haven't lived. She also is also an experienced activist who has worked both locally in the Afro-Bolivian community in Cochabamba and at the national level with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, where she worked to defend the human rights of the Afro-descendent community in Bolivia, strengthen Afro-descendant organizations, and monitor human rights violations..

I am fundraising to cover Sandy's travel and program costs so that she can have the opportunity to learn from and share with the Foro community ideas about indigenous femininity, Afro-idigenous identity, organizing, activism, and resilience. She already has experience in Honduras with the Afro-indigenous Garifuna community and is incredibly, incredibly excited about this possibility. And I figure, if you're organizing to take down a dictator, better to talk to a Bolivian than a United Statesian.

I am part of an amazing community of people who understand the power of travel. What can happen when we use that power not just for our own personal growth, but to also grow connections between amazing organizers who might not otherwise have the chance to meet? I would love to find out. I don't know what's going to happen with all of this, but I do know what would happen if I don't try.

Dream big, y'all. Keep fighting, keep resisting. Take care of yourself and let's create the world that doesn't exist yet.

All credit goes to the amazing Julianne Chandler for thinking of the right person to invite.
