Pop Pop Needs Dentures

Our dad needs most of his teeth removed so he can get dentures. He served proudly in the United States Navy for 23 years before he had to retire early due to medical issues. Retiring before he was ready impacted his mental health and as a result, he stopped taking care of himself, specifically his teeth. As the years went on he worked daily on his mental health but sadly his oral health declined (as this was not a top priority in the moment) and it started to affect his physical health due to the infections in his mouth. He is constantly in physical pain and is sometimes unable to eat.  As a result he can no longer do the things he wants to do, most importantly playing with his three young grandchildren the way he wants to.

He has had several consultations over the years and in the past few years he has had partial dentures made to replace the front teeth that have broken off.   This seemed to be the “fix” he needed but as time has gone on and he’s been back on track seeing a dentist regularly it has become apparent that his mental and physical health would absolutely benefit from having all of his teeth removed and new teeth be placed.

Being a veteran does not automatically qualify him for “free” medical/dental as many think.  Our mom’s dental insurance has fantastic coverage (which they opted to purchase over the military insurance due to his anticipated need for more substantial work to be done) but unfortunately won’t cover enough to get him started on this process as soon as we’d like.

Our dad is a proud man who would give you the last of what is in our fridge/cupboards before seeing someone go without.  He would never let a family he knows wake up to no presents on Christmas morning or go empty handed to their child’s birthday party. He has always been the funny one, the one who wants to make everyone laugh - he has the most unique and infectious laugh!!  He loves his grand babies wholeheartedly but we can see a side of him that holds back when not in the comfort of his immediate friends and family.

We have exhausted all measures on finding the best options.  A group that was offering a “veteran special” for implants quoted him $50,000 for the process.

Today we finally found the group that is going to help him from start to finish!!  We just need to get the funds to make this dream come true for our dad

After insurance kicks in the total out of pocket will be $11,000.

Our parents have worked hard their whole lives to provide for us and we never knew a day of struggle. We never went without what we needed or honestly what we wanted.  They love wholeheartedly and deserve to be smiling again in pictures together
