Pola Negri & Josephine Baker Mural in Austin

Tax deductible

Street art tells a story, evokes feelings, makes us think, sometimes even act. And when this happens, a connection between the viewer and the artist is formed, however fleeting it may be. Making connections is a focal point of our mission at Dot Dot Dot…Connect.

We ask for your support in sharing the costs of creating the MURAL of Pola Negri& Josephine Baker and making it a part of Austin’s landscape. We will use your donations  to reveal the mural to the community in the way we dream about – a party open to all in the style of the roaring 20-ties and 30-ties, with costumes, decorations, stories, music and dance.

Our choice of the two women artists is intentional. We see a captivating symmetry in their life experiences. Pola Negri, an emigre from Poland to the United States, became a Hollywood icon of the Silent Cinema era. Josephine Baker, an African American born in the US, emigrated to France and became one of the most successful and admired artists in French history. Following the mission of our nonprofit, we engaged two visual artists, who come from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, to do the job. One, is a graphic artist from Poland, Julia Mirny, and the other, a local Austin muralist, Dan Terry. The intention is to emphasize the symmetry, connections across cultures, and inspire artistic dialogue.

Help us share this story and keep alive the memory of the two remarkable artists embraced and admired by their adopted countries.
